MEET DR. ILLESCAs

Dr. Illescas completed her medical school and residency training at the University of New Mexico where she specialized in Internal Medicine. She holds two advanced training certifications. One in Medical Education through Stanford University, and a second for Patient Care Quality and Safety through the Institute of Healthcare Improvement. She then went on to complete an advanced fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine where she trained alongside world renowned integrative medicine physicians, Mimi Guarneri, MD, FACC and Erika Cappelluti, MD, PhD. Dr. Illescas has an extensive background in teaching, medical education, and curriculum design, with a current faculty appointment at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine where she teaches Clinical Reasoning and Doctoring to medical students. She is a published author in a variety of topics, ranging from juvenile psychopathy to chronic kidney disease to regenerative joint repair. However her primary scholarly focus has been on adult learning theory and its application to improve the medical school curriculum for students and residents. Dr. Illescas is the owner and founder of a private integrative medicine practice where she unites medical science and root cause diagnosis with natural interventions to restore balance to the mind, body, and spirit.
